Churchwide Men’s Wednesday Night Bible Study

Russell Donaway emailed me about the Wednesday Night Churchwide Men’s Bible Study he is leading.  Following are the details pasted from Russell’s email:

It  is called “A Measure of a Man” by Gene A. Getz.  This is a video and workbook study.  The study focuses on True Masculinity not being measured by a man’s strength, but by these 20 biblical guidelines.  Each week we will focus on a different biblical principle.

It will be held at FBC on the 3rd Floor West from 6pm-6:50pm.

The goal of this study is to encourage fellowship among Christian brothers, expand your circle of friends, and  find accountability partners as you learn new ways to become the complete man God desires you to be.

Guy’s Lunch

In case you didn’t get the email our guy’s Thursday morning breakfast has moved to Thursday lunch.

We will meet every Thursday, come and go, from 11:45am to 1pm at Market Street on 98th and Quaker.

So far our Thursday breakfasts have been pretty informal.  Just a time for us to get together to get to know each other, blow off some steam and talk about guy stuff (huntin’, fishin’, work, etc.).  At times we even share some prayer requests but usually we can pick up on what each other need just by talking.

Hope to see you there.

Update

Just wanted to let you know that Luke was sent home this evening.  He has pneumonia.  I’m sure that Matt and Robin would appreciate your continued prayers for him to continue breathing well tonight and to recover quickly!

Update on Luke

Spoke to Robin at about 3:15.  Luke remains in the ER at UMC where they are continuing to try to make a complete diagnosis.  The doctors see some evidence of possible pneumonia starting to develop, so they are doing an X-ray to confirm.  At this point, the doctors have not decided whether or not to admit Luke.  Keep them in your prayers!  Will keep you posted…

Luke Dufilho

I got a call from Robin about 1pm today Thursday the 20th and they were referred to the ER from the Urgent Care Clinic.  Matt had told us this morning at breakfast he had been up with Luke much of the night because Luke had a bad cough and his breathing seemed elevated.

Robin took him to the Urgent Care Clinic this morning and they sent her to the ER.  When I spoke with her they had done some blood work, were about to insert an IV, and were going to do or had done a chest x-ray.  The blood work showed he had a low pulse ox level (not enough oxygen in the blood) and if they can’t get that corrected they will be admitted to the hospital for at least an overnight stay.

Please pray for the Dufilho’s as nobody likes to see their child suffer or in the hospital.  They also have family beginning to arrive tomorrow for Christmas.  I’ll try to have someone update this as we receive more information – you may check the comments under this post for updates.

Christmas Party

pirkle-class.jpg

We had so much fun tonight at the Christmas party. Joe and Paige’s house (and 10 Christmas trees) was beautiful and festive for the evening. For those of you who missed it (like the party at your law firm was more fun, Vicki) some of the best quotes from the evening included:

Missy to Phil (after he drew a good number for the gift exchange): You are so getting lucky tonight.

John to Missy (said upon trying to dance with her): None of that, we’re grindin’.

Missy: What’s grinding?
Matt C.: It is a kind of dance.

We also had a class sing-a-long to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”, recycled gifts from last year’s gift exchange, a close-up look at an inappropriate gag gift, and a shirt that Matt C. can wear to church on Sunday. I can’t wait until next year!

Our class Christmas party will be Friday, Dec 7, at Joe & Paige Jackson’s house. Don’t forget to sign up for the FREE childcare at the church asap. The party will be from 6:30ish PM- 10:30 PM. Paige & Joe live at: 6801 59th Street and their phone number is: 799-2627. You can get directions at www.mapquest.com

Each couple will need to bring a wrapped Christmas ornament, and a wrapped white elephant gift ($10 limit).

We are going to have the event catered by Beef O Bradys. They are going to do a variety of foods like buffalo wings, wraps etc. The cost will be $5 per person or $10 a couple for the math challenged.  What a deal, huh? Just bring your money to church this week if at all possible.

Should be a fun fun time- as it always is when our class gets together!!!

Make sure to let Jennifer know if you are coming asap so that we can get a final headcount for the caterer. Call or email: jlcrews@suddenlink.net or call 795-4054.

Christmas Party Childcare

Our class Christmas party will be on Friday, December 7 from 6:30-10:30. The church is providing free childcare for the evening so that we can all be there. You need to sign up for childcare in class by Sunday, Dec. 2. If you won’t be in class before then because you’re out of town for Thanksgiving or serving in a different area of the church or for any reason at all, please either have someone from our class sign your children up or contact Erin Pirkle at erin@fbclubbock.org to let her know which children to expect.

I hope to see everyone at the party!

Food, Flowers, and Funeral

For those of you who have said that you would like to do something for John’s family, he suggested that we could bring food for the people who will be in town through the weekend. Quana said that she would get whatever we bring tomorrow at the funeral and make sure that it gets to the right places. If you are not planning on going to the service, but would still like to send food, you can get it to the Dufilho house and they will take it to Levelland.

Also, Missy ordered flowers from our class. If you would like to contribute, give money to her the next time you see her.

For those who are going to the service, some of us are going to meet at the Dufilhos tomorrow morning, shortly after 9. We can combine into fewer vehicles and caravan out to Levelland. Comment to this post if we should expect you to join us. Also, if you would like to go to the service, but do not have childcare, Stephanie Goforth has offered to watch any children that may need to be left behind. You can get her number off the contact page (remember the password is our teacher’s wife’s first name).

Thanks for being there for each other.
