Prayer Request

I have a friend, and his family, I grew up with I need y’all to pray for.  His dad was killed this weekend in a boating accident on a farm pond.  My friends name is Greg Henderson and his dad’s name was Zane Henderson.

I’ve received a few details via email from another friend who goes to church with them now at First Baptist Euless and its a bit of a crazy situation overall.

Zane’s wife, Greg’s mom, Darla died a few years ago after fighting breast cancer for a number of years.  Zane remarried less than 2 years ago and moved to a new town with this lady and, from what I understand, her younger children.  Apparently the relationship between the “old” and “new” families was a bit strained.  Zane, his new wife, and some children were on a boat in the farm pond and the boat tipped.  Zane and the new wife got all the kids out of the water but in the process he got tangled in the trolling motor and was sunk along with the boat and his body was not recovered until the next morning.

It sounds like a crazy situation and along with stress, grief, and all else involved they need all the prayer they can get. 

Lastly, I will share that my parents became friends with the Henderson’s through a young married Sunday School class much like ours when they were younger.   To me this shows the importance of making friends through church, allowing our kids to become friends, and how getting involved in each others lives can make a difference 20 or 30 or more years down the road.  I’m thankful for all of you.

Churchwide Men’s Wednesday Night Bible Study

Russell Donaway emailed me about the Wednesday Night Churchwide Men’s Bible Study he is leading.  Following are the details pasted from Russell’s email:

It  is called “A Measure of a Man” by Gene A. Getz.  This is a video and workbook study.  The study focuses on True Masculinity not being measured by a man’s strength, but by these 20 biblical guidelines.  Each week we will focus on a different biblical principle.

It will be held at FBC on the 3rd Floor West from 6pm-6:50pm.

The goal of this study is to encourage fellowship among Christian brothers, expand your circle of friends, and  find accountability partners as you learn new ways to become the complete man God desires you to be. 

Guy’s Lunch

In case you didn’t get the email our guy’s Thursday morning breakfast has moved to Thursday lunch. 

We will meet every Thursday, come and go, from 11:45am to 1pm at Market Street on 98th and Quaker. 

So far our Thursday breakfasts have been pretty informal.  Just a time for us to get together to get to know each other, blow off some steam and talk about guy stuff (huntin’, fishin’, work, etc.).  At times we even share some prayer requests but usually we can pick up on what each other need just by talking.

Luke Dufilho

I got a call from Robin about 1pm today Thursday the 20th and they were referred to the ER from the Urgent Care Clinic.  Matt had told us this morning at breakfast he had been up with Luke much of the night because Luke had a bad cough and his breathing seemed elevated. 

Robin took him to the Urgent Care Clinic this morning and they sent her to the ER.  When I spoke with her they had done some blood work, were about to insert an IV, and were going to do or had done a chest x-ray.  The blood work showed he had a low pulse ox level (not enough oxygen in the blood) and if they can’t get that corrected they will be admitted to the hospital for at least an overnight stay.

Please pray for the Dufilho’s as nobody likes to see their child suffer or in the hospital.  They also have family beginning to arrive tomorrow for Christmas.  I’ll try to have someone update this as we receive more information – you may check the comments under this post for updates.

Guy’s Event

So, men we need to have a guy’s event.  The idea we’ve talked about most is going to Gander Mountain for their opening.  The soft opening, day they open their doors, is Tuesday September 18th and their Grand Opening Event is on Friday September 28th.   I think we should get a bite to eat and then go cruise the store for a while somewhere in that date range so please make a comment to this post and we’ll figure out what day works best for the most people and just plan to go. 

Or, if this doesn’t interest you then provide a different suggestion and we’ll make something work or maybe do more than one thing.
